to supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal

Dear Supporters of Democratic Rights:

On January 12, 2000, the International Committee to Save Mumia Abu-Jamal will sponsor a high-level delegation to Washington to demand justice for Mumia Abu-Jamal.

Our goal is to bring together in the nation's capital leaders, luminaries and well-known personalities from the United States and around the world who support the demand for a new trial. We will be delivering to the White House and the Justice Department the hundreds of thousands of signatures gathered to date in support of the "Open Letter to Bill Clinton" [see text of letter in this section].

The proposal to organize such a delegation to Washington has met with widespread support. On Nov. 11, for example, the national coordinators of Mumia's defense campaign voted unanimously to endorse and support this initiative. These are the coordinators who initiated the unprecedented April 24, 1999, demonstrations in Philadelphia and San Francisco and who are now planning a mass national conference in Mumia's defense in January 2000. Prominent trade union leaders and elected officials the world over have also added their support to the "Open Letter to Bill Clinton" and the delegation to Washington.

I call upon all supporters of democratic rights in the United States and across the globe to help us gather thousands upon thousands of signatures in support of the "Open Letter to Bill Clinton" and to raise the money necessary to ensure the success of this effort.

Let us serve notice to Bill Clinton that the eyes of the world are on his administration and that Clinton must use the powers of his office to ensure the conditions for a new and fair trial for Mumia.
